The European Central Bank Traineeships

 

The European Central Bank has launched 6 new traineeship campaigns:

  • PhD traineeship in operational data analytics: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/PhD-traineeship-in-operational-data-analytics/3557     
    • use and feed our Division’s business intelligence system;
    • use a set of internal IT tools and data visualisation software (e.g. Tableau);
    • draft analyses and reports and present them to stakeholders;
    • follow existing internal procedures and help create new ones;
    • contribute to theoretical research and discussions;
    • shape the analyst profile in the team.
  • Traineeships in Communications: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/Traineeships-in-Communications/3586  
    • organising innovative and impactful communications campaigns for the general public, in particular young people, from the drafting of the proposal to the production of impact reports;
    • liaising with our communications agency;
    • conducting research on possible multipliers and stakeholders and establishing relations with them;
    • conducting research on target audiences and topics for our initiatives;
    • identifying trends and developments in public debate on economic and monetary policy in the euro area and drafting reports;
    • implementing our civil society engagement strategy, including planning and organising initiatives for representatives of European civil society organisations.
  • Traineeship in procurement and technology support for lawyer-linguists: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/Traineeship-in-procurement-and-technology-support-for-lawyer-linguists/3593       
    • support the Division in conducting public tenders, as well as three and/or five-quote procedures, to ensure that the entire procurement process is accomplished effectively and in accordance with the ECB’s procurement rules;
    • provide procurement expertise and administrative support throughout the procurement process and participate in the process of reviewing and approving tender documentation as well as in the evaluation of offers;
    • contribute to the planning and monitoring of procurements within the framework of various procurement reports produced by the Central Procurement Office;
    • contribute to identifying opportunities and developing solutions for effective use of technology in legal drafting, revision and translation;
    • contribute to enhancing processes involved in legal revision, legal translation and publication of legal acts;
    • support analysis and further development linked to accessibility of ECB legal acts.
  • Traineeship Lawyer-Linguist with English as main language: https://talent.ecb.europa.eu/careers/JobDetail/Traineeship-Lawyer-Linguist-with-English-as-main-language/3590  
    • edit and revise ECB legal acts, ECB supervisory decisions, Administrative Board of Review opinions and other legal texts drafted in English;
    • apply Union legislative drafting rules to the drafting of ECB legal acts, and review draft ECB legal acts to ensure legal, linguistic and terminological consistency;
    • provide assistance to the relevant ECB business areas, joint supervisory teams (JSTs) and national competent authorities (NCAs) in the drafting of supervisory decisions, Administrative Board of Review opinions and other legal texts;
    • contribute to the development of the methodology and procedures for drafting and translating ECB legal acts, and develop and update supervisory decision templates and associated guidance notes to be used by ECB Banking Supervision, JST and NCA colleagues;
    • carry out legal research related to legislative drafting and in areas relevant to the ECB’s activities as a central bank and a banking supervisor;
    • contribute, as required, to projects reaching beyond a particular language desk and to the work of the Legislation Division as a whole.

    • translate draft ECB legal acts and other legal documents from English into French;
    • revise French translations of ECB legal acts and other legal documents;
    • translate legal texts from French into English for internal working purposes and revise translations from French into English of national laws and other legal documents;
    • contribute to the drafting of ECB legal acts;
    • carry out legal research related to legislative drafting and in areas relevant to the ECB’s activities as a central bank and a banking supervisor;
    • engage in the Legislation Division’s projects related to the development of the ECB lawyer-linguist function, knowledge management, the use of technology, etc.
    • contribute, as required, to the work of the Legislation Division as a whole.

    • translate draft ECB legal acts and other legal documents from English into Italian;
    • revise Italian translations of ECB legal acts and other legal documents;

    • contribute to the drafting of ECB legal acts;
    • carry out legal research related to legislative drafting and in areas relevant to the ECB’s activities as a central bank and a banking supervisor;
    • engage in the Legislation Division’s projects related to the development of the ECB lawyer-linguist function, knowledge management, the use of technology, etc.
    • contribute, as required, to the work of the Legislation Division as a whole.

                                    

Who can apply

Students, including PhD students, or recent graduates can apply for a traineeship.

All candidates should:

  • be at least 18 years old;
  • be a national of a Member State of the EU or of an acceding country;
  • have completed at least a first cycle qualification (minimum bachelor’s degree);
  • be fluent in English and in another official language of the EU.

Following their most recent qualification candidates should:

  • have a maximum of 12 months’ professional experience;
  • have been a trainee for no more than six months;
  • not have been an ECB trainee or have worked for the ECB previously.
