CIVICA-Google Policy Summer Institute [apply by April 21]

The CIVICA-Google Policy Summer Institute is a unique programme exclusively open to first-generation university students enrolled in a master's programme at a CIVICA member institution.

Scholars are invited to spend a week at a Google Office based in Europe, followed by a two-month summer internship with one of Google’s partner policy agencies. Successful applicants will be assigned a Policy Challenge, and immersed in dynamic and skill-based learning opportunities to enhance their policy skillset. They will be partnered with a Google mentor to provide support and career guidance for the duration of their internship.

To apply you must:

  • Be enrolled in a master's programme at a member university of CIVICA
  • Be a first-generation university student, i.e. your parents did not attend university
  • Be fluent in the working language of your chosen European location (C1/C2 CEFR) 
  • Demonstrate academic excellence 

How to apply:

    • CV
    • Language Certificates, if applicable
  • Submit a 2-minute video: This is an opportunity to introduce yourself to the selection committee and tell us why you will be a good fit for the Policy Summer Institute. Feel free to get creative. Smartphone recordings are welcome! If you do not wish material you upload to YouTube for your application to be publicly viewable, you can flag your video as ‘unlisted’. Please do not flag your material as ‘private’ as it will not be accessible to the hiring board.
  • Submit a statement of motivation: In 300 words or less, explain how the Policy Summer Institute will help you achieve your policy and government affair career goals. Please incorporate examples showcasing your leadership, impact and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in your response.
